Winter Trail Etiquette
Good winter trail etiquette means using skis or snowshoes on any DEC designated trails when there is 8”, or more, of snow. In fact, when there is 8″, or more, snow in the High Peaks Wilderness; ski/snowshoe use is the law.
Ski and snowshoe use is ESPECIALLY important when using a ski trail to access a climbing area. A few examples of climbing areas that use ski trails for access are the North Face of Pitchoff and Hoffman Notch.
Many other designated trails climbers use for access are shared multi-use trails that good winter trail etiquette is equally as important. Avalanche Pass is a good example of a climbing area that is accessed via a shared multi use trail that ski/snowshoe use is essential.
Please recreate responsibly and don’t posthole the trails!
